Map/Unmap a vCenter Folder and, Networks to a Client
If you have specific VM folders you want your client to use, you can do so using client assignments (mapping). Mapping allows you to assign a folder and port groups to a client.
Mapping VM folders
To map a folder to a client, click on “My Services” and select your vCenter Automator, then click on Client Management and select with datacenter to be used to display the relative folders.
You will now see a list of all folders within that datacenter. Each folder displays the VMs and clients assigned to it. Unassigned means no client is currently assigned to the folder.
Assign a client to a folder by clicking on the person icon located under Actions. This will open the Associate Account screen. There will be a list of all available clients not yet assigned to a folder. Select a client and then click submit.
Within a few seconds, the client will be assigned to that folder. You can verify if the client mapped correctly by referring to the company name column.
To map a solution to a client, click on the plug icon to open the “Map Existing Services” window. Before you begin, make sure the VM you wish to map is within the solution’s resource range and capacity. Only VMs that fall within the defined range can be associated to the solution.
Select the solution type to map and choose a solution. If the VM matches the solution type and falls within its ranges, the VMs will appear.
You can select any or all VMs to map. If you select multiple VMs they will all use the same solution.
Once completed, click “Save”.
Mapping networks
After mapping solutions, you can map a port group to the client.
Click on Networks to see a list of port groups available in the selected datacenter.
Click on the person icon and select the clients who will use this Port Group. Multiple clients can use multiple networks.
Note: It is not recommended to map clients to uplinks.
Unmap solutions
You may unmap clients if you no longer want them to use a certain VM, or if you choose to
remove them altogether.
Start by clicking on the no plug icon. This will open the Unmap Existing Services window.
Select the solution type to unmap, then select the solution you want to unmap from. Next, select the VMs that you want to unmap and click the “Unmap” button.
The client will no longer have access to the VM or be able to see it. Note that this does not remove the VM from your vCenter.
