Once your HyAlto service provider account has been created, you will receive an email that contains a link to complete the registration process. You will be prompted to pick a password for your account and once set, permitted to log in to your portal using your email address and chosen password.
Log In and Set Up Your First Automator
To log in to your HyAlto account, click on the Login button on the Login page. This will open a new window with a login prompt.
Once logged in for the first time, you will be brought to the Automators configuration pane where you can add an Automator by clicking the Add HyAlto Automator button.
Click the + beside the appropriate Automator type and then click Ok to confirm.
Download HyAlto Virtual Appliance Template
The HyAlto virtual appliance allows for secure communication between your VMware datacenter and the HyAlto application.
The environment that you will be deploying the OVA in must have these minimum requirements:
An ESXi Host with:
CPU – 2GHz
RAM – 8GB
Storage – 20GB
The VMWare Environments that HyAlto supports are:
vCenter 6.5+ running an HA cluster
vCloud Director 8.20, 9.x, 10.x+
NSXv 6.3.x, 6.4.x+
In the upper right corner of the Automator configuration screen, you will find a download button to download the latest version of the virtual appliance template for that Automator type.
Once downloaded, deploy the template in your vCenter datacenter using the deploy wizard.
You may rename the virtual machine and select the appropriate location and resources in which to place the appliance in. Once you get to Step 7 of the deployment wizard, fill in the custom template with the following information:
(the example above is vCenter 6.7 in HTML5)
Fill in the six sections as follows:
Hostname (optional) – Give the adaptor a hostname.
DHCP support - If you’ve selected ‘no’, then continue filling out the template. If you’ve selected ‘yes’, click Next and leave everything else blank.
IP Address – Enter the private IP for the virtual appliance in CIDR format (x.x.x.x/yy)
Gateway – Enter the Gateway that the Service Adaptor is behind.
Primary/Secondary DNS (optional) – You may use your own DNS or a public DNS server depending on your setup. If you use private, make sure the ASA can resolve outside of your network.
Setup Firewall Rule
To allow HyAlto to perform automation and orchestration tasks with your VMware datacenter, the virtual appliance requires open communications with your vCenter/vCloud Director servers as well as HyAlto.
Configure your perimeter firewall to allow the following inbound ports:
TCP/8080 from FQDN outbound.hyalto.com (HyAlto frontend) for communication with the HyAlto front-end application
TCP/22 from IP 207.35.212.109 (HyAlto datacenter) so HyAlto can keep the virtual appliance up-to-date and provide timely support
TCP/443 ideally from anywhere but could be scoped down to your customers’ public IP addresses, used for the remote console proxy
a. Set Up vCenter Automator
Step 1: Identify Service – Give your Automator a name.
Step 2: Service Adaptor URL – Put in the Hyalto Service Adaptor public IP or DNS name using along with its port (default is :8080).
Step 3: vCenter Credentials – Enter in your vCenter IP or DNS that you want Hyalto to manage along with a user with full system administration access and its password. (ex. administrator@vsphere.local)
b. Set Up vCloud Director Automator
Before you begin:
You will need to set up an AMQP server for vCloud to send messages to. This is necessary to support reverse synchronization between vCloud and HyAlto, allowing you to make changes in vCloud natively and have them reflected in HyAlto via AMQP. We recommend RabbitMQ as an AMQP server.
Step 1: Identify Service – Give your Automator a name.
Step 2: Service Adaptor URL – Enter the HyAlto Service Adaptor public IP or DNS name using along with its port (default is :8080).
Step 3: vCloud Director credentials – Enter your vCloud Director’s IP or DNS that you want HyAlto to manage along with a custom user with system admin rights. We recommend hyalto@system. Do not use the administrator or any account used to log in to the vCloud Director as this will break the communication to AMQP.
Step 4: AMQP Credentials – Enter in the AMQP Server IP and Exchange information that HyAlto will use for Reverse Sync. It should be the same Exchange that vCloud is using.
Step 5: Once all the fields are filled out, click Configure. The Configure steps at the top will begin to set up the Automator.
Once you get a green checkmark for all steps, and you acknowledge that the Automator will start communicating with your vCenter, the sync will begin. Your first Automator is now set up.
